West Norfolk mayor Paul Bland hosting talk on Gloucester ship at King’s Lynn Town Hall in support of True’s Yard Fisherfolk Museum and Sea Cadets

West Norfolk’s mayor is hosting an evening charting the history and the future of ‘Norfolk’s Mary Rose’.

On Friday, September 13 at 6.30pm, Cllr Paul Bland will be hosting an evening at Lynn Town Hall about the royal ship the Gloucester carrying the Duke of York which ran aground off the Norfolk coast in 1682.

Two of the team who discovered the Gloucester, Julian and Lincoln Barnwell, along with Professor Claire Jowitt from the University of East Anglia, will be speaking at the event.

Together, they will deliver a “highly interesting and informative” presentation, before the evening’s guests enjoy a supper in the Assembly Room, under the ever-watchful gaze of Lord Horatio Nelson.

The event offers the opportunity for first-hand insights from the team who are intimately involved in what has been described as ‘Norfolk’s Mary Rose’- a key part of our county’s strong maritime heritage.

The evening will be in aid of two of the mayor’s charities – Lynn Sea Cadets and True’s Yard Fisherfolk Museum.
