The Littlest Mermaid is off to join the circus
You’ve all heard of the ‘Big Top’ ... but a Big Top with a Mini Top inside?
That is the unique set up coming to The Walks in Lynn later this month when a show rolls in aimed at the under-sevens.
My First Circus: The Littlest Mermaid is an interactive musical voyage mixing circus and theatre for the whole family from Norwich-based The Garage, All-In Productions and Lost In Translation Circus with support from arts charity Creative Arts East.
The show with the all-professional cast is performed at the big top set up in The Walks inside a mini top. It is only being performed here in Lynn.
Based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale, join Marina the Littlest Mermaid and her friends as she explores the world above the ocean.
Her eyes opened, she wants to become human but to do so she must enter the lair of the evil Sea Witch.
Produced with support by Arts Council England, My First Circus: the Littlest Mermaid is aimed at ages 0-7 and runs approximately 60 minutes.
This show is a mixture of circus and musical performance and is fun and interactive, so the little ones get up and join in with the action.
Adam Taylor, chief executive of The Garage, said: “The show is truly interactive and suitable for anyone from babes-in-arms up to seven. Under-ones go free and for the babes it is a sensory experience and for the older kids, it is not a passive experience. That is not how they watch TV so we want them to be up and enjoying it.
“It is about the Littlest Mermaid who falls in love with a Prince and then – spoiler alert – that she does not need the love of the Prince to be happy and is an independent woman!”
The music is all original and was composed by Norfolk composer Lloyd Gorman.
The weekend-long event begins at 7pm, Friday, August 30, with Hotel Paradiso, Lost in Translation Circus’ brilliantly funny new circus / theatre show for all the family full of comedy, drama and delight.
You can catch My First Circus: The Littlest Mermaid at 10.15am and 1.15pm, Saturday, August 31; plus Hotel Paradiso at 4pm. Gibbon starts at 7pm and fuses juggling and physical theatre.
Two more performances of The Littlest Mermaid are at 10.15am and 1.15pm on Sunday, September 1. From 3.30pm you can enjoy Circus Treats featuring aerial, acrobatics, comedy and juggling.
Tickets for all events cost £10 adults / £7.50 children. Under-1s go free for My First Circus: The Littlest Mermaid. To book, call Alive Lynn Corn Exchange on 01553 764864 or visit www.kingslynncornexchange.co.uk.
