King’s Lynn Players’ production, Gary Barlow and Tim Firth’s Calendar Girls The Musical, in show week
It’s show week for The King’s Lynn Players’ latest production, Gary Barlow and Tim Firth’s Calendar Girls - The Musical, with the finale being Wednesday, November 16 to Saturday, November 19.
Director Sharon Fox said: “Wow! I can’t believe it’s show week… our second musical of 2022 and it’s been such an honour to direct this talented cast.
“The team spirit in this production has been amazing and this week has been so much fun so far.
“Almost a decade ago we staged the play of Calendar Girls and it was a big hit. It was an emotional journey and we hope that audiences will love the true story of a group of ordinary women living in Yorkshire who achieve something extraordinary!”
Publicity officer Tom Clarke added: “When we staged the play it sold out and people have been enjoying the musical just as much. It’s a real emotional rollercoaster.
“One minute you are in fits of laughter and the next it’s tears!
“We are also proud to partner with Blood Cancer UK to collect money for this worthwhile cause, linked in with the story of the Calendar Girls, after every performance of the show.”
The musical is inspired by the true story of a group of ordinary women living in Yorkshire. One of the women’s husbands is diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a type of blood cancer and sadly dies.
In the months that follow the friends get to work making a ‘nude’ calendar to raise enough to buy a new sofa for the hospital where he was treated.
The friends end up raising millions for Bloodwise (formerly Lymphoma & Lymphoma Research).
Based on the 2003 film, and with unforgettable songs, each performance continues to add to the millions already raised for charity.
Tickets sold well for the start of the week but The Players have about 100 to sell for the final Saturday performance.
Tickets are available from the Alive Corn Exchange box office on 01553 764864 or https://kingslynncornexchange.co.uk/theatre/whats-on/music/calendar-girls-the-musical/
