Westacre Theatre Company goes on a madcap Dickensian adventure in stage adaptation of hit BBC Radio 4 comedy Bleak Expectations
The outdoor stage at Westacre Theatre is busy being transformed into a variety of locations for its new production.
Westacre Theatre Company prepares to stage the hilarious Dickensian parody Bleak Expectations on August 15, 16, 17, 21, 22, 23 and 24 from 7.30pm.
Fans of the BBC Radio 4 comedy will be familiar with the colourful characters including plucky, young half-orphan Pip Bin, his long-suffering best friend Harry Biscuit, and his ex-guardian Gently Benevolent who is constantly trying to kill him.
As well as his sisters Pippa and Poppy who try to buck the trends for women of their time, the evil Hardthrashers who are also out to get him, and many more.
Never knowingly under-propped, this fast-paced comedy directed by David Connor, makes full use of as many Victorian objects as the company could get their hands on and audiences can expect a visual treat as well as belly-laughs in this summer production.
Bleak Expectations features the 2024 Bursary Award Students who join the company from universities and drama schools all around the country following successful auditions earlier in the year.
This unique residential summer placement offers these young actors and creatives the chance to work in a professional setting gaining valuable practical experience – plus they bring their considerable talent to the company for the season.
With the weather now in their favour, the venue has been welcoming audiences to their grounds this summer for pre-show picnics before they head over to the covered summer tent to enjoy the evening’s entertainment.
Audiences are welcome to enjoy the tranquillity of the setting before the hilarity of the show.
Join young Pip Bin and his chums as they try to thwart the evil Gently Benevolent in a rip-roaring rampage of an adventure full of hilarious mistaken identities and surreal plot twists.
