Watlington Players theatre group to perform classic sitcom Vicar of Dibley with proceeds going to Comic Relief
An amateur dramatics group will be tackling a comedy favourite with a production of the Vicar of Dibley.
The multiple-award-winning Watlington Players will venture back onto the boards with the clever stage adaptation of the popular television series.
The hilarious comedy was originally written by Richard Curtis and their production will begin at Watlington Village Hall from Thursday, June 1 until Saturday, June 3.
The popular play revolves around Geraldine Granger, the first female vicar, making her stamp in the quaint village of Dibley.
Thus follows the hilarious antics of the eccentric parish council.
A spokesperson said: “This hilarious stage adaptation of the Vicar Of Dibley promises to leave you smiling from ear to ear taking its source primarily from the first two series of the show aired between 1994 and 1998. Although some of the later episodes and specials have been referenced.
“We follow the Dibley Parish Council as it negates some of its regular meetings, along with the slow budding romance of Alice and Hugo.
“ There is some strong language.
“We have taken the decision to allocate some seats as designated wheelchair spaces. If you require one of these please feel free to book them.”
The well regarded society will, through their performances, be donating proceeds to Comic Relief, the charity that supports projects and organisations who are making a difference for people across the UK and around the world.
Directed by Steve Brooks, a long-time member of Watlington Players, the play will be the society’s first production this year following a successful run of three sell out shows in 2022, Shrek the Musical, Oliver Jr and Elf the Musical.
Tickets for the show are available and now on sale.
