Fakenham Remembrance Service saw many take to the streets for those who died at war
Crowds took to a town’s streets to remember those who lost their lives in war.
As a Union Flag flew at the top of Fakenham Parish Church, hundreds of people could be seen gathered around the town’s war memorial for a Remembrance Day celebration.
Scouts, Cubs, Guides, Cadets and other forces made their way through Norwich Street in a parade led by the town’s band.
Representatives from RAF and USAF Mildenhall alongside MP Jerome Mayhew also paid their respects to the fallen before the wreath laying, and a brief service was held by Reverend Tracy Jessop who prayed for reconciliation between all nations and all those still in danger as a consequence of pain and conflict.
Band member Peter Dixon played The Last Post and Reveille as the ceremony was concluded with the National Anthem shortly after.
Many then moved across the square to the church for the United Town Service.
“It was wonderful to see so many people attending the wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial in Fakenham,” said town mayor Angela Glynn.
“Over 150 uniformed personnel marched behind the band, bearing standards.
“Almost 20 wreaths were laid at the War Memorial and there was a well-attended service held in church afterwards.”
This morning, a two-minute silence was held and pupils from schools in the town had the chance to lay their own wreaths and pay their respects.
“Both events were fitting tributes to those who gave their lives in two World Wars,” Cllr Glynn added.
