Andy Tyler reviews King’s Lynn’s Festival’s coffee concerts performed by De Beauvoir Piano Trio

Entertainment reviewer Andy Tyler went to see the first of King’s Lynn Festivals Spring events by attending a coffee concert. This is what he thought…

The new season of King’s Lynn Festival Spring events got off to a fine start with a well-attended coffee concert given by the talented De Beauvoir Piano Trio consisting of: violinist Enyuan Khong, cellist Charlotte Kaslin, and pianist Hao Zi Yoh.

The recital took place at Lynn’s historic Town Hall and the excellent programme was received with enthusiasm by the audience.

It featured Mozart’s Piano Trio in C Major, K.548, Beethoven’s masterful Piano Trio in B Flat Major, Op.97, The Archduke, and an intriguing and delightful work by Lili Boulanger (1893-1918), entitled: ‘Du’n matin de printemps’, the second arrangement of a piece originally written for violin and piano.

The work was lively, colourful and in a similar style harmonically to Ravel's.

All the works were performed with confidence, clarity and subtlety by the award-winning musicians.

The trio look to introduce lesser-known works, both classical and contemporary, to audiences. They have given recitals widely in the UK and Europe.

We certainly hope to hear more of their enthusiastic music-making.

The Festival’s next Coffee Concert takes place on Friday, March 7.

It’s a recital to be given by Pianist Rokas Valuntonis, with a programme of music by Beethoven, Chopin and Schumann.

The venue is again Lynn Town Hall, with a 11am start with coffee and cake available from 10:30am.
