True’s Yard holding exhibition on King's Lynn Mart

To herald the return of the King’s Lynn Mart, True’s Yard are holding an exhibition celebrating the men and women throughout history who have run it – The Showmen’s Guild.

King’s Lynn Mart is the first fair of the year, dating back to when the town was given a charter by Henry VIII in 1537 to hold a Valentine’s Fair.

The exhibition looks at the founding of the guild, how the fairs have been impacted by various events since the First and Second World Wars and some of the incredible rides invented by Lynn’s own Frederick Savage.

Talking about the exhibition, Museum manager, Lindsey Bavin said: “When we think of the Mart, we tend to think of the amazing rides, candy floss and crowds, but none of that would be here were it not for the Showpeople.

“Their story is important to the history of our town and we hope to bring this to life in our exhibition.”

The exhibition will run until Friday, March 1.
