Two August screenings for King’s Lynn Community Cinema Club
Lynn Community Cinema Club’s Summer Season continues in August with two screenings.
On Thursday, August 10 Steven Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical coming of age drama The Fabelmans will be shown.
Spielberg directed, co-wrote and produced the film with Tony Kushner, with the story loosely based on Spielberg's adolescence and first years as a filmmaker.
The plot is told through an original story of the fictional Sammy Fabelman, a young aspiring filmmaker who explores how the power of films can help him see the truth about his dysfunctional family and those around him.
The second film will be shown on Thursday, August 24 and is the Spanish movie Alcarras which follows the Solé family who have spent every summer picking the peaches in their orchard in Alcarràs, a small village in Catalonia.
But this year's crop may well be their last, as they face eviction. The new plans for the land, which include cutting down the peach trees and installing solar panels, cause a rift in this large, tight-knit family.
For the first time, they face an uncertain future and risk losing more than their orchard. According to the Guardian it is a ‘really shrewd, empathic and subtle movie - a deeply intelligent, humane drama’ and has won more than 30 awards around the world.
Unfortunately, due to the closure of the Riverside Restaurant, the planned pre-film meal will not now take place. However, as ever, some club members will be meeting in Ferry Lane Social Club for a drink before and after the screenings and anyone attending is invited to join them.
The films will be shown in St George’s Guildhall, King Street and both start at 7.30pm. Membership for this season is still available for £17 which gives members entry to all films.
