That’s Entertainment: Andy Tyler discusses upcoming events in and around King’s Lynn, including VE Day celebrations, musical events and themed walks
In his weekly That’s Entertainment column, Andy Tyler looks at some exciting upcoming events...
I hope all those who had free time over the Bank Holiday weekend enjoyed themselves and managed to take part in some of the VE Day celebrations held locally.
I am pleased to report that there is so much more to enjoy coming our way soon, so watch this space.
Over in Hunstanton this Saturday is a VE Day Gala, 2pm at Hunstanton Town Hall (tickets can be purchased at By The Book), but the VE Day parade and street party on Hunstanton High Street on Sunday are free. For all the details, visit: hunstantontowncouncil.gov.uk
Also, between June 20 and 22, an exciting carnival weekend is being held in Hunstanton. There’s a parade, live music, and great entertainment promised, so keep an eye out for details.
We are lucky in being able to hear two of the finest brass bands coming to West Norfolk this spring and summer.
The Grimethorpe Colliery Band visits Hunstanton’s Princess Theatre, 7.30pm on Saturday, May 24 and The Black Dyke Band performs at this summer’s Lynn Festival on Sunday, July 13, 3pm at Lynn Corn Exchange.
Tickets for both concerts are now available. Why not blow that trumpet and go?
Our very own first-class Town Band presents their spring concert on Saturday, May 17 at the London Road Methodist Church, starting 7.30pm. It’s bound to be a blast of an event, and the collection is in aid of the Lynn Food Bank.
Yet another grand musical event is to be given by Lynn Community Choir on Saturday, June 14, 7pm at St Nicholas’ Chapel; it’s an evening of songs from our shores and far beyond.
This concert is in aid of Tapping House and is conducted by music director Charlotte Sinassi-Hill, with David Hill on the piano and special guest instrumentalists.
Another musical event not to be missed is being held this Sunday at All Saints Church, starting at 3pm.
It’s a concert featuring Lynn’s finest young classical musicians, including pupils from Springwood High School and the West Norfolk Music Centre.
Admission is free and tea and cakes will be available after the performances. This musical showcase is another Lynn Festival event. What’s not to like?
More important dates for your diary! Try and keep Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15, free as it’s the fantastic Lynn Hanse Festival weekend!
Films, plays, children’s activities, a special breakfast, and a parade are all planned. Keep an eye on the festival’s website for details on what’s happening, due to appear soon: www.kingslynnhansefestival.co.uk
Still on Hanseatic matters, Phil Eke will give a talk on tourism and Hanseatic opportunities, 2.30pm this Sunday at The Marriott’s Warehouse Trust. Free admission, but donations gratefully received!

In your free moments when you wish to relax with a good book, I would recommend this week a new ‘whodunnit’ by TV and radio presenter and journalist Jeremy Vine.
See what you think of Jeremy’s first attempt at this type of novel; out now and published by Harper Collins.
Especially for Marvel movie fans, my film recommendation this week is Thunderbolts, starring Florence Pugh. In the film, a group of antiheroes is caught in a deadly trap and forced to work together on a dangerous mission. Thunderbolts has received some good reviews, now on release.
And so to walk matters. The Lynn Town Guides organise themed walks covering the area and they are held daily during the peak season.
There’s much to learn and appreciate connected with these fascinating outings, so do visit: www.kingslynntownguides.co.uk for more information.
There’s certainly no shortage of quality entertainment in our area - more next week!
