West Norfolk Jubilee Youth Orchestra to hold open evening

The West Norfolk Jubilee Youth Orchestra (WNJYO) continues to thrive and grow.

Despite losing some senior members who have taken up places at university this term, the numbers stay constant with new recruits joining in all sections.

The majority of the WNJYO players are aged 11-16 but meet the required standard of playing which is Grade 4.

There are vacancies in all string parts plus the group has spare seats for an oboe, bassoon and French horn players under-21 who have reached the required standard.

A new feature in this year’s programming is an open evening.

This will give young musicians, who are interested in joining a youth orchestra, an opportunity to sit in on a rehearsal, meet the current players and experience the excitement of playing in a large orchestra.

The open evening will take place in the orchestra’s usual rehearsal venue at Springwood High School in King’s Lynn at 7pm on Wednesday, September 26.

Parents will be welcome too as they can sit and observe the rehearsal and chat to some of the parents of current players.

The orchestra offers a unique opportunity in West Norfolk to explore the orchestral repertoire which, in the case of WNJYO, ranges from Mozart symphonies to the music from Jurassic Park and Harry Potter.

Further information about the orchestra can be found on their website at: www.WNJYO.org
