When Lynn Players met the Fagin of stage and screen

The King’s Lynn Players have been delving into the archives from the last 75 years and have found these great pictures from their meeting with Ron Moody way back in 2001!

Ron, who famously played Fagin in both the stage and film versions of Oliver!, kindly agreed to meet the production team and even sent a good luck message to the cast.

Sharon Fox, who is choreographing the Players’ latest production of Oliver being staged in May, met Ron and remembers: “Ron Moody was starting in a touring production at the time and when it visited the Theatre Royal in Norwich our then chairman, the late Jim Farr, arranged for us to meet him.

“What a treat it was! A few of the production team were lucky enough to meet the legendary performer and I will never forget it!”

She added: “He was even kind enough to write the cast an illustrated good luck message, and we cherish it. It’s great to look back on this meeting as we are about to stage the show again!”

The director of the 2019 production of Oliver!, Stephen Hayter, adds: “We are so excited that our show is just weeks away and rehearsals have been such fun! We can’t wait to hit the Corn Exchange stage on May 15th and we hope the show will be a sell-out. We have 45 children and 25 adults in the cast and it’s one of the biggest productions we have ever staged.”

Oliver! – The Musical by Lionel Bart is one of the most beloved British musicals of all time and the talented cast will transport you to Dickensian London to meet the timeless characters of Fagin, Nancy, Bill Sykes, the Artful Dodger and of course, Oliver, the boy who asks for more.
