Music in the Burnhams’ musical evening with Baroque quartet Red Priest at Burnham Overy Village Hall

“The world’s most extraordinary Baroque quartet” are set to bring musical entertainment to a concert this weekend.

Music in the Burnhams is putting on an event with Red Priest on Saturday at Burnham Overy Village Hall.

The Baroque period was one of “incredible and wonderful experimentation” in music, with performers competing against one another, stealing and re-writing each other's works, mixing and developing new styles, always searching for something new to titillate the ears and move the souls of the public.

Recorder player Piers Adams said: “We found that considerable drama and freedom could be achieved by memorising the scores, and also took inspiration from some of the more progressive groups on the world music circuit.

“Especially certain eastern European gypsy bands, for whom virtuoso command, heart-on-sleeve emotion, improvisation, and total musical freedom are rolled effortlessly into one.

“We felt that Baroque music too could benefit from such an approach.”

Tickets for this event are £20 each and under 18s can go along for free.

People can book online at musicintheburnhams.com or call 07989 177079.

There are a limited amount of tickets available.
