Walpole St Peter fete raises whopping £2,657 in aid of church funds
The two-day Walpole St Peter fete and market has raised a whopping £2,657.01 so far.
It was held over the weekend at Walpole St Peter's Church in aid of funds.
Gilli Galloway, the church's volunteer events co-ordinator, said the funds raised will go towards paying church insurance costs: "We have to raise all of the money ourselves to keep it going, to keep the church open," she added.
"It's a Grade I listed building. It's really good news.
"It's nice to see people catch up with each other and hugging each other's dogs. We were blessed with the weather on Saturday.
"We sold an amazing amount of cake and one of the most popular things was the barbecue. We sold more than 200 burgers in the two days.
"Overall we had a great time."
The event included more than 20 stalls inside the church, and a marquee café serving cakes and other refreshments outside.
Live music was performed by Singers Inspired, an acapella group from Downham, on Saturday and then ukelele combo Fenland Flukes on Sunday.
The next event will be a Platinum Jubilee Picnic on Sunday, June 5 when families can bring their own picnic.
Then another two-day fete and market will be held in the same vein as last weekend on September 3 and 4.
