King's Lynn Town Under-18s on the FA Youth Cup trail
King's Lynn Town Under-18s are back on the FA Youth Cup trial tomorrow night when they host Needham at The Walks.
The young Linnets have had an excellent start to the new season, winning their first two competitive matches on the pitch.
Lynn's young-guns thrashed their counterparts from Holbeach 14-0 in a pre-season friendly before scoring a further seven goals in a resounding 7-0 success over Whitton United in the extra preliminary round.
Hayden Lambert scored four times in the last-round triumph in Suffolk with Ethan Wilson (2) and Nico Costa, who has been on trial with a Premier League club in recent weeks, also finding the back of the net.
Academy boss and team manager Alex Cross said: "It would be great to get as much support as we can for our first game at The Walks.
"A big crowd would be greatly appreciated by the lads and I'm sure they'll respond with a performance on the pitch.
"We're still five rounds away from reaching the first round proper and it's a big ask, but I wouldn't put anything past this group of players.
"They've been superb from minute one in both games and we were superior in every department against Whitton in the last round.
"We were 2-0 up at half-time and after making a couple of minor adjustments at half-time we ran out 7-0 winners.
"You have to give full credit to the whole squad for putting in that level of performance. We had two 16-year-olds start the game and another one who came off the bench."
Cross is delighted with the progress made by the academy, which is based at KES, and believes that the scheme is in a great position as they look to carry on the conveyor belt of talent on offer to the first team.
"We are in a real good place at the moment," he said.
"There's now a genuine pathway at the football club for youngsters to come through and several of them have already been in and around the first team in training and involved with the squad on a matchday.
"When I arrived here it was evident that certain things needed to happen to make sure the structure was in place in terms of the provision and everything that we're delivering.
"There has been a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes in the last seven or eight months and this side of the club has really moved forward."
Coach company Eagles kindly provided transport for the team's trip to Whitton while hat-trick hero Lambert was presented with a ball signed by the rest of the team following his exploits in front of goal.
Wednesday night's game at The Walks has a 7pm kick-off.
Tickets are priced at £5 (concessions and children are free) and can be purchased by visiting the club's website at: www.kltown.co.uk
