ELECTION 2021 - Conservatives dominate West Norfolk seats in county council elections
The political map of West Norfolk remains a deep shade of blue this evening as the Conservatives dominated the county council elections.
All 14 seats for the borough have now been declared, with the Tories winning 12, the same as at the last election four years ago.
Independent candidates have claimed the borough's other divisions, with Labour losing their one seat.
Among the winners was the former West Norfolk Council leader Nick Daubney, who won the Freebridge Lynn seat.
But any hopes of a Tory sweep of the borough's seats, as happened in 2009, were ended early on when Independent Alexandra Kemp retained her Clenchwarton and Lynn South seat.
And the biggest cheer of the day came when another Independent, Jim Moriarty, took the Gayton and Nar Valley division.
Elsewhere, Conservative Tom FitzPatrick, a member of the County Hall cabinet in the last term, was re-elected in Fakenham.
And the Tories were celebrating a gain in Holt, where they have unseated the Liberal Democrat North Norfolk district council leader Sarah Butikofer.
With results in 83 out of the 84 county electoral divisions, the Conservatives have 58 seats, up three on the last election in 2017.
Labour remains the main opposition, but now with only 11 councillors, down six on last time, while the Liberal Democrats are on eight, down three.
The other big winners have been the Green Party, who have climbed from zero to three seats, the same number as the Independents.
One contest, in the Sewell division in Norwich, did not take place yesterday following the death of the Conservative candidate Evelyn Collishaw. A by-election will be held there next month.
