Hunstanton man threatened to stab neighbour with knife after ongoing issues with each other

An anonymous call to police led to a fight between neighbours in Old Hunstanton being broken up.

Magistrates in Lynn heard on Thursday that James Taylor had threatened to stab another man with a knife.

The court was told that there had been ongoing issues between the men for two years.

Their properties are owned by Freebridge Community Housing and it was said that Taylor had made it difficult for his neighbour to access a shared shed.

Taylor pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour on August 21.

Prosecutor Lily Orr said: “The defendant suggested they have a fight.

“He went inside and came back with a large knife.

“With the blade pointing down, he came at [his neighbour] with a downward thrusting action.

“He said ‘I’m going to shank you up.’”

The court was told that the neighbour was worried but stood his ground because he didn’t want to appear so.

There were children crying nearby.

Taylor later told police: “My girlfriend called police and that was a good thing.

“I would have gone for him. I’m really strong.”

Solicitor George Sorrell said in mitigation that things had come to a head after bad feeling between the two men but his client was due to move home before Christmas.

Sentencing was adjourned to November 2 for preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Taylor, of Old Hunstanton Road, was granted conditional bail.
