Family day at Swaffham Museum was well attended by parents and children
A town museum was packed out with parents and children eager to learn about fossils and ancient Egyptians.
The free family day was held at Swaffham Museum on Tuesday which gave youngsters the opportunity to learn more while taking part in fun activities.
A total of 125 parents and children came on the day.
The event was organised by the Sainsbury’s Centre and funded by Arts Council England.
Both organisations have been working with the museum and nearby schools in the past year. This was its last event.
Parents and children got to look at fossil replicas and Stone Age tools and took part in an archaeology project.
Families also learned about Tutankhamun and the British archaeologist Howard Carter - who was raised in Swaffham.
At the end of the day, children made their own booklets to take home where they wrote a story about an object or person they learnt about.
Sue Gattuso, manager of Swaffham Heritage, said: “It was packed, I’ve never experienced anything like it at the museum.
“The items that the centre produced were perfect. They made replicas that we now have at the museum. We put these in loan boxes and give them out to schools.
“These are items that are difficult for teachers to get hold of such as fossils.
“We are very grateful to the Sainsbury’s Centre.”
