Security guards in place at Downham Market Library due to ‘unacceptable behaviour’ from youngsters

Security guards have been put in place at a town library due to “unacceptable behaviour” from groups of youngsters.

Norfolk County Council put the measures in place at the Downham library on Priory Road.

This is the latest in a line of anti-social behaviour problems in the area, with Downham Town Council reporting yesterday that drug paraphernalia had been found near the skate park.

A spokesperson for the county council said: “Over the last few weeks, young people have been carrying out unacceptable behaviour at Downham Market Library on a number of occasions, which is unsettling for both staff and customers.

“The police have been informed and are working with us. We have also put security guards in place temporarily until today (4 September) when the school terms starts.”

Graffiti has also been an issue in Downham recently, as has people taking their dogs to the skate park despite it being against the rules.
