Swaffham Memory Lane: South West Norfolk Conservatives bid farewell to Sir Paul and Lady Hawkins in 1987

Pink and purple were the theme colours of South West Norfolk Conservatives’ farewell party for Sir Paul and Lady Hawkins at Swaffham Assembly Rooms in October 1987.

Those were the colours, Sir Paul reminded the guests, under which he took the SW Norfolk seat in 1964 – one of only five Conservative gains in the country at that election.

He was presented with an inscribed silver salver and a cheque, while a bouquet was presented to Lady Hawkins.
