Drone footage of Ashill shows devastating impact of the heat as gardens and homes burn
This dramatic footage show the devastating impact of Tuesday's heat as gardens and homes burned on the UK's hottest day on record.
Properties in the village of Ashill, near Swaffham, are seen ablaze with smoke billowing into the sky.
Drone operator William Gentry assisted Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service with their efforts on containing the devastating wildfires.
Drone footage from Wiliam, who runs Pink Spitfire Aerial Photography, enabled firefighters to figure out where the fires were burning.
It also allowed them to see where they had the potential to spread.
William, 23, said: "I was able to take this footage and highlight the scene to on-the-ground firefighters."
“This is a real tragedy for Ashill and our thoughts are with the whole village, but especially those who have sadly lost their homes," said leader of Brecklands council Cllr Sam Chapman-Allen in a statement.
“I’d like to thank the heroic efforts of the Fire Service, who battled the blaze in such extreme conditions, helping to protect as many properties as possible and, most importantly, the lives of our residents,"
This has been a heart-breaking event for the village, but once again we’ve seen the fantastic strength of community spirit in Breckland.”
Breckland Council have also promised to help find temporary accomodation for those who have lost their homes.
Community Enabler's have also been going door to door to see what other support they can provide those effected.
A major incident was declared by local authorities after the Fire and Rescue Service was called out to at least 70 separate incidents in one day.
